Welcome!

Lindsey Hogan, Ph.D.

Credentials

I am a licensed clinical psychologist in Houston, Texas, where I provide therapy for adults and adolescents and Collaborative/Therapeutic Assessments (psychological testing) for adults.

I obtained my doctorate in clinical psychology from the University of North Texas, where I had the opportunity to research psychotherapy outcome variables and train in a variety of settings, including college counseling centers, community clinics, and hospitals. I went to SUNY Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, New York for my predoctoral internship, before coming back to Texas for a postdoctoral fellowship at The Menninger Clinic. I worked at Menninger and Baylor College of Medicine for 7 years as a staff psychologist and Assistant Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences on the Compass Program for Young Adults, where I provided individual and group therapy, psychological assessment, and clinical supervision and training.

Specialty Areas

While I enjoy working with a variety of different concerns and populations, I have advanced training and specialized experience with emerging adults, Collaborative/Therapeutic Assessment, attachment trauma, and assessment and treatment of personality disorders.

Affiliations

As a curious person and a lifelong learner, I am currently a candidate in the Adult Psychoanalysis program at the Center for Psychoanalytic Studies in Houston. I am also a member of several other professional organizations, such as the American Psychological Association, Houston Psychoanalytic Society, American Psychoanalytic Association, and the Therapeutic Assessment Institute.

Approach

I work flexibly to tailor treatment to each person’s complex experiences and needs, incorporating different techniques or approaches when appropriate. I prioritize creating a safe relationship in which we can be curious together about your authentic experience and learn how your mind works. I tend to rely on a broadly psychoanalytic, relational, and attachment-oriented theoretical perspective to help me think about someone’s difficulties and strengths. This means that I consider how experiences in early important relationships have impacted the internal stories, expectations, patterns, and underlying conflicts we bring to our relationships with ourselves, others, and the world. Sometimes the things we learned to do in the past to maintain our emotional (and sometimes physical) safety are no longer serving us, and are instead keeping us stuck or causing suffering. Understanding and working through these kinds of dilemmas within the safety of a trusting therapeutic relationship can allow for healing, greater personal freedom, and more meaningful, satisfying connections.
